​Business English classes are completely personalised to you, your profession, and the situations you encounter in your working life. Whether you’re starting a new job, taking on greater responsibility, or simply want to feel more confident using English at work, we’ll focus on what’s most useful to you.
There’s no fixed syllabus because every profession uses English differently. Your lessons will develop naturally around the demands of your working life, so we spend our time on the English that actually matters to you.
For speaking, we might prepare for a presentation or an important meeting, practise a difficult conversation through roleplay, or work on pronunciation and fluency. We also look at different ways to express yourself when you know what you want to say but keep reaching for the same words.
For writing, we can work on the things you actually need to write at work. That could be a report, some promotional material, a training manual, or something completely different. We can proofread and edit what you’ve written, improve the way you’ve expressed something, or work together to develop it from scratch.
I’ve worked with professionals from a wide range of fields, and over the years I’ve built up a good understanding of all sorts of professions and working environments. If yours is new to me, that’s fine too - I learn quickly, and it won’t take long for me to understand what you do and what you need from English. After all, the heart of every job is effective communication.
And that’s really what we’re working towards: helping you communicate your knowledge, your ideas, and your expertise with confidence.
Looking for a job in English is stressful enough without worrying about whether your grammar is perfect. But the thing is, it isn’t just your language level that matters; it’s how you use what you’ve got.
CV writing and interview performance are entirely unique and very different from other forms of communication. What most people forget is that this is marketing: you are the product, so you have to present yourself in an appealing way. You also need to understand what your potential employer is looking for, as well as the demands of the role.
Just remember that your English isn’t the only thing being assessed in that room. You’re presenting yourself, and first impressions matter.
CV Writing: This needs to be concise, informative, and highly focused. There’s always more than one way to present the exact same experience, so we’ll look at the language you’re using, how your achievements come across, and make sure your CV is actually saying what you want it to say.
Interview Preparation & Practice: One of the most common mistakes made during interviews is answering questions in general and vague terms rather than giving specific examples from your own experience. Instead of talking in the theoretical, I’ll show you how to talk about what you actually did: what happened, what your specific action was, and the result.
All my advice is based on years of experience helping serious learners prepare for these situations, as well as my own postgraduate research into the nuance of interview language.
One of the most frustrating things about learning another language, especially as an adult, is that if you don’t use it, you lose it.
One way to prevent this from happening is to speak. That’s it.
No exam to prepare for. No textbook to follow. Instead, just a conversation. A real one.
We can talk about what’s happening in the world, what’s going on at work, your family, something you’ve read, something that’s annoyed you, or whatever else comes up. No topic is off the table. It’s your class, so you decide what we’ll talk about.
And because I’m still your English teacher, I’ll correct your pronunciation, grammar, and word choice along the way. So, at times we’ll look at why one word works better than another, or explore different ways of expressing an opinion.
And if you prefer something more structured, I have hundreds of topics and discussion questions ready to go, so we can focus on something specific. The idea is still to have a natural conversation - after all, you won’t have time to pre-prepare answers in the real world. However, if you’re feeling a little nervous, I can give you the topic the week before, so you have some time to read, think, and get your ideas together in English.
Whatever we talk about, I’m not here to judge. Different opinions can make for much more interesting conversations, and who knows - we might both see something from a different point of view by the end of it.
Whichever option you choose, you’ll be using your English, revising your grammar, expanding your vocabulary , and building your confidence with every class.
It won’t feel like learning, but you WILL be improving.
