Miss ELTon - English for serious learners

Why am I an English teacher? For one simple reason: I love this language.

I love its creativity, its flexibility, and the fact it refuses to stand still.

However, I haven’t always been a teacher. I once pursued psychology and counselling, as well as working as a trainer in different business fields. It wasn’t until my 30s that I discovered the joy of teaching language.

For a few years, I taught my second language, Spanish, but a gentle nudge and encouragement from a friend gave me my first English student. And while I’ve always been passionate about reading - it’s often 2 am and, bleary-eyed, I’m muttering, “just one more chapter” - suddenly that passion had a new direction.

This ultimately led to my completing an Honours Degree in Modern Language Studies, specialising in English and Spanish, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education through the Applied Linguistics route.

Even today, these studies continue to shape the way I teach. They’ve driven my desire to create tools that are genuinely useful for learners: tools that bridge the gap between how English is taught, how it’s learnt, and how students are expected to use it in real-world situations and exams.

All language is born from a need to communicate, to express, and to connect. It evolves to meet the needs of an ever-changing society, and so it is shaped and moulded by experts and everyday people alike.

In that way, English is actually alive - a monstrous beast that can devour you whole if you let it. BUT, if you take time and have patience, that beast CAN be tamed. And eventually, you’ll have yourself a well-trained best friend - a trusted companion through life.

So, are you ready to take the reins?

Your Study Buddy

This cutie is based on my own real-life companion, who was my little shadow for almost 19 years. He provided excellent cuddles and emotional support, especially through stressful periods like studying while working and being a mum.

And although he’s now gone, I wanted to find a way for him to live on.

He was always present during my face-to-face and online classes, and all my students knew him. And now he’s here for you. He’ll be a familiar face throughout your learning journey - appearing in lessons and videos to celebrate successes, encourage you through challenges, and remind you that learning English is something you don’t have to do alone.

*Cara is the best English teacher I have had. She organises and prepares the classes very well. It's clear she has a lot of experience and enjoys teaching English. She is a great professional. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who wants to learn English. Since I started taking her classes my English has improved tremendously.

*It is a pleasure taking lessons with Cara. Not only do I learn a great deal from her thanks to her deep knowledge of the English language, but I also enjoy the fascinating and delightful conversations that arise when talking with her. If you are looking for a kind, fun teacher who really knows how to teach, do not hesitate to contact Cara.
